OUR PROJECT INTERVENTIONS
Since 2009, ADPHA- Uganda has been partnering with different National and International organizations, to ensure that the voices of people with disabilities living with HIV and those affected by Tuberculosis (TB) are heard at Local, National and global level. We are currently implementing the following projects;
Membership Empowerment and Livelihoods .
Continuously empower our members to own and sustain their organization through knowing and exercising their rights and obligations, mobilising new members through peer, emergency support and improving household interventions, participating in leadership and decision making and advocating for inclusion of in HIV/TB, livelihoods and several government programs.
Inclusive Tuberculosis (TB) programs and services:
The project aims at all TB programs and services in Uganda become inclusive of people with disabilities. Disability recognized as a human rights issue in HIV and TB programs and services, addressing the unique barriers to access that People with disabilities face. People with disabilities affected by TB actively participate in TB program design, planning, implementation, and monitoring.
Inclusive HIV services:
Strengthening advocacy for the implementation of seven pieces of local legislations for promoting disability inclusive HIV/TB prevention and control. The local legislations include District Ordinance for Rakai district, and other six bilaws for Kyesiiga sub county, Lukaya Town Council, Malongo sub county, Kisseka Sub county, Lwengo Town Council and Kitanda sub county. The goal of advocacy campaign for implementing the the local legislation is to ensure universal access to health services for people with disabilities to realise equitable access and utilization of available services in accordance with Article 25 of the Convention on the Rights of persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and sustainable Development Goal 3(SDG3)- Quality Health services for all.
COVID -19 Responses:
The project aimed at all COVID-19 services including vaccinations in greater Masaka sub region become inclusive of all people with disabilities including those with physical, mental, intellectual, or sensory disabilities, and living with HIV&AIDS and/or affected by TB. Children with disabilities to have greater opportunities and be targeted by public health due to their vulnerability. Persons with disabilities receive priority to access to COVID-19 vaccination and boosters to reduce their chances of infection. COVID-19 service providers ensure and maintain respect for dignity, human rights, and fundamental freedoms while avoiding widening existing disparities experienced by people with disabilities.
Reproductive Health Rights and Prevention of Gender Based Violence among people with Disabilities living with HIV and affected by TB:
This project builds confidence and skills of people with disabilities including women, young women and men, girls and boys living with HIV affected by TB to stand against stigmatization in accessing Sexual Reproductive Health information and services delivery.
